The challenge for me as the illustrator was in deciding how big the boy should be (he changes sizes as the wind grows or diminishes) how old he should be (about seven years old) and what his attitude should be like (generally friendly and harmless).

I spent several weeks painting each of the illustrations for this book! They are done in oil paint on prepared paper. My goal was to make the pictures as warm and friendly as possible, and to give the book an old-fashioned, yet timeless, quality.[/expand]
